Writing in the Wall Street Journal on Wednesday, a person familiar with the matter said digital yuan transactions significantly outperformed Visa on February 4 at Beijing's National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest, the venue of the opening ceremony of the 34th Olympic Winter Games.
However, many of the merchants that allowed purchases with China's central bank's digital currency, the digital yuan (e-CNY), were outside the health "bubble" for athletes, journalists and Olympics staff.
