Ukraine's deputy prime minister and head of Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, said Thursday on his Twitter account that the Kiev government has decided to cancel the airdrop a prize to encourage cryptocurrency donations that it had announced on March 2. , as crypto funding to Ukraine surpassed $50 million.
Instead, non-fungible tokens (NFT) will be used to finance the military conflict with Russia.
"After careful consideration, we decided to cancel the airdrop. Every day there are more and more people willing to help Ukraine fight aggression. Instead, we will soon announce NFTs to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine," Fedorov wrote.
This token distribution procedure served as an incentive for cryptocurrency donations to multiply during the hours after its announcement. Network users speculated that the prize could have been an NFT thanking donors or a newly minted token.
On the other hand, some users criticized that Kiev promised an 'airdrop' and canceled it just after the number of donations skyrocketed.
Others called it strange that Ukraine is using donation money to finance the conflict, instead of going to the country's thousands of refugees.
