The Brazilian Central Bank has announced that it has lifted measures that prevented credit, debit, and prepaid card transactions through WhatsApp in Brazil. The BCB put an end to the coercive measures against Mastercard and Visa, which had suspended transactions on the messaging application of Meta.
The Central Bank (BC) resolved, on March 3, the total cessation of coercive measures applied to Mastercard Brazil and Visa do Brasil, which had suspended payment transactions through the WhatsApp messaging application Facebook Payment Program using the purchase purpose P2M and transfer purpose P2P payment arrangements of these trustees.
The central bank reiterates that there are no longer any regulatory impediments to making purchases with bank cards and prepaid cards, a functionality that adds to the transfer of resources between app users.
