Spotify has recently launched a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool called DJ AI that works with generative AI and functions as a personalized radio program, even providing context about songs or artists with a DJ-like voice narrating as if it were ChatGPT.
According to Spotify, the personalized AI narrates "as if it knows the user" and their musical tastes, offering a pre-selected music selection along with comments on each song and frequent artists in users' playlists or with a similar style or voice.
To create the voice model for the DJ, Spotify partnered with their own Head of Cultural Partnerships, Xavier X Jernigan. Previously, X was one of the hosts of Spotify's first personalized morning show, The Get Up. His voice resonated with their listeners and resulted in a loyal following for the podcast. His voice is the first model for the DJ, and Spotify will continue to iterate and innovate.
The Spotify developers worked to make the DJ as accurate as possible in terms of vocabulary and word patterns. The AI will integrate Spotify tools such as "recent listens," "best of the year," "your past," "memories," "weekly discovery," or "editor's picks."
This is still gaining traction. This marks the biggest change Spotify has had since we introduced the mobile app 10 years ago. In the past, you loved Spotify as the best destination for listening, but today this evolution is really about bringing Spotify to life. We want to infuse the platform with the same energy and creativity every time I have the opportunity to sit next to an artist or creator and feel their passion as they tell their stories.
