Ledger, a hardware wallet provider, recently announced the launch of its new “Ledger Extension” for browsers that offers connectivity to Web 3.0. With this extension, users can connect to dApps, non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces, wallets, and other decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.
The Ledger Extension allows users to link their Nano X via Bluetooth to dApps from their browser, even on desktop. The tool will alert users when they interact with suspicious smart contracts and show them what is entering and leaving their wallet before any transactions take place. The company has stated that they are working hard to integrate the Ledger button with as many dApps as possible.
To connect to OpenSea, users can go to the website and click on the Wallet icon in the top right corner, where they will see a list of wallets they can use to connect to OpenSea. They should ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on their Ledger device, iPhone or Mac, and open the Ethereum app on their device. Then, they should select Ledger, choose the Ethereum account they wish to use, and connect checking that the message successfully connected appears. They should review and sign the message on the Ledger device and accept OpenSea's terms and conditions.
The Ledger browser extension is currently available for Safari on iOS and macOS, with support for Windows and the Chrome, Brave, Opera, Edge, and Firefox browsers coming soon. It is unclear whether the extension will work with other Ledger hardware wallets.
Ledger plans to integrate all its devices with Web 3.0. To verify a transaction with the Ledger Extension, users will need to select and pay for their NFT on OpenSea. The extension will then open and run Web3 Check and Wallet Preview, which will display security alerts if any before completing any transactions. The first will prompt the user to review potential issues on the Ledger device, while the second will display changes in the wallet once the transaction is complete.
Overall, the Ledger Extension allows users to connect their Ledger Nano X directly to dApps and explore the Web 3.0. These features will soon be available on the Ledger Nano S Plus with USB-C cable and the Ledger Stax via Bluetooth.
