This Tuesday the 'Bitcoin Law' enters into force, which will allow the use of this cryptocurrency as legal tender, which, according to President Bukele, will have several benefits for El Salvador.
El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele announced on Monday that his government has just purchased its first 400 bitcoins as the country prepares to become the first nation in the world to legitimize cryptocurrency as legal tender.
"El Salvador just bought its first 200 coins. Our brokers will buy much more as the deadline approaches," Bukele wrote on his Twitter account. A few hours later, the president reported that El Salvador bought another 200 bitcoins, increasing the total to 400.
The opposition party Alianza Republicana Nacionalista (ARENA) mocked Bukele for buying the bitcoins, accusing the government of "chiviar" (playing) with "the money of all Salvadorans" and arguing that his monetary policy left "10 million dollars less in the coffers of the State ".
